OSWESTRY DAMP PROOFING

Professional
damp surveys

Understand the source of the moisture before deciding how to repair it.

INVESTIGATION FIRST

A damp reading is only one part of the picture

Moisture meters are useful for mapping patterns, but readings can also be influenced by salts, metal and different building materials. A reliable inspection considers the whole building rather than relying on a single number.

We review the position and height of dampness, external defects, ground levels, wall construction, plumbing, ventilation and internal conditions. Thermal imaging may assist in locating cold areas or hidden patterns where appropriate.

WHAT WE CHECK

1

Symptoms

Location, pattern, height, staining, mould, salts and damage to finishes.

2

Outside

Roof drainage, pointing, render, openings, ground levels and water routes.

3

Inside

Ventilation, heating, plumbing, wall finishes, floors and timber condition.

4

Next steps

A clear explanation of likely causes and proportionate remedial options.

When to arrange a survey

  • A damp patch keeps returning after decoration
  • Plaster is crumbling, bubbling or contaminated with salts
  • Black mould is affecting bedrooms, bathrooms or external corners
  • You are purchasing or renovating an older property
  • A cellar or below-ground room is wet
  • You have received conflicting opinions about the cause
Our approach: explain what the evidence points to, what should be ruled out and which work is actually justified.

After the inspection

Where treatment is needed, we can outline the scope and provide a quotation. Where the source is a maintenance defect or ventilation issue, we will say so rather than selling an inappropriate damp-proof course.
